Screening of Costus speciosus and Determination of Antioxidant Potential Using DPPH Method: A Review

Medicinal plants are garnering widespread interest in scientific circles due to their consistent pharmacological activities, which make them beneficial the treatment of a variety ailments. Costus speciosus, commonly known as crepe ginger, is an herbaceous plant native Mexico that belongs family Costaceae (zingiberaceae). Creep Ginger have many medicinal effects, such antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and potential antidiabetic activities. The aim this review was investigate phytochemical compounds antioxidant activity speciosus. following information on phytoconstituents species speciosus acquired from online databases using NCBI, Pubmed, Google Scholar, Science Direct, Molecules, Elsevier, Research Gate searches. Phytochemical analysis several studies showed presence alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, phenolic compounds, tannins, terpenoids, saponins extract. parts used usually leaf, rhizome, roots. results suggest wide range extracts may be estimate DPPH methods. Extracts with methanol solvent show has considerable antiscavenging present study alkaloids indicates contents responsible for high activity. Antioxidant capacity indicated by values EC50 IC50. This help future research activities providing up-to-date relevant data.
